If you’re heading to the Westend for the Christmas shop, be sure to venture into ‘Soho end‘ of Oxford Street for an informal introduction to 100 people with a connection to Soho, via the Someone of Soho digital exhibition on the Flannels building. The giant installation on the corner of Poland St and Oxford St displays black and white portraits with first names and a signature hashtag: the work of photographer Richard Piercy.
“It’s people who help define the character and soul of the neighbourhood.” says Richard who ran a business in the area for 30 years. Someone of Soho is part of an ongoing project by W1 Curates who have turned an entire building into a public access digital art space.
The exhibition was originally installed over the summer lockdown on boarded up shop and business fronts as a show of solidarity with the local businesses affected by the pandemic. It is now being reproduced as a state of the art three storey digital installation in the run up to Christmas. W1 Curates director Mark Dale said, “Richard’s exhibition is both a celebration of every-day people and an important documentary of the ever changing face of this unique pocket of London.”
The Oxford Street Christmas Lights won’t be the only thing lighting up the High Street!
