IKEA marks its arrival on Oxford Street with the World’s Largest IKEA Bag shopfront | My Soho Times

London’s Oxford Street is renowned for a number of reasons, one of which is its remarkable stopfronts. Now Sweden’s most famous import to the UK has creatively elevated the concept of “window shopping“, by unveiling a colossal installation of their iconic ‘frakta‘ shopping bag on the façade of their Oxford Street store.

If you’ve recently ventured into the West End via Oxford Circus, we doubt you could have missed IKEA‘s statement piece marking its territory on one of the world’s most prominent shopping districts! The Swedish retailer unveiled a 128 ft wide and 62 ft tall version of its iconic blue shopping bag with their signature yellow IKEA logo etched on the hanging handles. It covers up the scaffolding of the site previously home to the much-loved TopShop flagship store.

As it stands, this visually striking display compensates for the unfortunate delay in the grand opening, which is now scheduled for 2024.

Bringing A Boost to Oxford Street

This move is said to be bring a boost for Oxford Street, which has been struggling with fewer footfall due to the pandemic and the closing of stores like TopShop and Debenhams. But IKEA moving in, things are looking up for this iconic shopping district!
