New Opening: Mayfair’s renowned Italian restaurant Bocconcino has arrived in Soho | My Soho Times

Mayfair’s Bocconcino is renowned for its authentic Italian cuisine, wood-fired pizzas, and handmade pasta. Now, with its expansion to Soho, it promises to bring the same level of excellence and culinary mastery to a whole new audience. Ahead of its highly anticipated official opening on Thursday, 21st September, our editor, Kai Lutterodt, had the pleasure of attending an exclusive preview dinner. Prepare your taste buds for a slice of La Dolce Vita as Boconcini sets foot in this buzzing part of town…

There are some cool benefits to living and working in Soho, alongside running the area’s hyper-local print publication. One of the perks is that I don’t need to venture very far to experience the best of London’s vibrant culinary scene, fused with cultural flavours. And that was the case when I attended the preview dinner of Bocconcino Soho earlier this week. Bocconcino, which means “little mouthful” in Italian, served up some seriously big flavours (especially if like me, you’re a fan of truffle *licks lips*). The evening brought together an intimate gathering of press, influencers, and content creators to sample some delightful (generously portioned) signature dishes from Bocconcino’s menu.

Considering that I’ve never visited the original venue before, this was a refreshing new experience for me. My foodie acquaintances at the table however, confirmed the dishes aren’t dissimilar from what its neighbouring Mayfair restaurant offers.

A Taste of Italy: What to Expect at Bocconcino Soho

The menu, crafted by Head Chef Simone Serafini – formerly of Cecconi’s and exclusive members’ venue 5 Hertford Street – invites diners on a gastronomic expedition throughout Italy, presenting dishes that pay homage to the diverse regions of the country. Expect soul-nourishing comfort foods; indulgent pasta and pizza creations, alongside delectable aperitivo small bites. A noteworthy addition to Bocconcino’s repertoire will be the introduction of cicchetti (Venetian-inspired small plates) intended for sharing, showcasing mini versions of their acclaimed handmade pasta and antipasti selections.

Feast on Bocconcino favourites such as Tagliatelle with Black Truffle or Tagliatelle with Pistachio Pesto and Sicilian Red Prawns (available in full or cicchetti servings) as well as the popular Pizza Diavola, made fresh by pizzaiolos using traditional Roman dough.

Chef Simone will also introduce a Tasting Menu, inspired by his upbringing in renowned culinary regions, Florence and Turin. Guests can anticipate an extensive assortment of cocktails showcasing both timeless and contemporary creations. Additionally, the establishment proudly boasts an exceptional wine selection, specialising in Italian wines from artisanal producers from throughout Italy.

The elegant interiors, spread across two floors, are a modern interpretation of an Italian trattoria. The area houses an open kitchen and marble counter seating, providing diners with front row seats to the pizza chefs meticulously crafting each order. Downstairs, is a cosy yet classy subterranean speakeasy bar (opening in October), bringing a touch of glamour and opulence below the vibrant streets of Soho.

Private dining for group celebrations will be available, plus a rotating line-up of resident DJs to entertain until late, from Thursday – Saturday.
