I had the pleasure of inviting my dad to be my guest for the launch of their new tasting menu, which proved to be truly captivating. From the affordable price of £48, to the tastefully adorned interior which showcases an open kitchen allowing guests to witness the chefs passionately engage in the art of plating, every aspect of our visit left a lasting impression. And of course, spending quality time with my pops over good food and wine! Let’s tuck into Catalonia shall we?

Start your culinary expedition with Course 1 – Patates Braves: a delightful creation of Crispy Potato Terrine, accompanied by the velvety richness of Manchego Espuma (cheesy mousse), complemented by the smoky essence of Tomato & Roasted Garlic Aioli. This dish sets the tone for the incredible gastronomic adventure that lies ahead.

Course 2 – Gaudi: Chicken Arrollado takes centre stage, adorned with the earthy elegance of Hen Of The Woods mushrooms. The dish is elevated further with the enticing flavours of Black Garlic, Hazelnut Pesto, Bergamot, Lovage, and Muscatel.

Course 3 – El Bulli 1984 – 2011: Dive into the rich traditions of Catalonia with a quintessential dish: Pa Amb Tomàquet. This celebration of simplicity features Heirloom Tomato, drizzled with Extra Virgin Olive Oil, sprinkled with a touch of Smoked Salt. This classic combination pays homage to the region’s culinary heritage.

Course 4 – Arròs Negre: Embark on a journey of culinary contrasts with a visually stunning dish. Black Pollock takes centre stage, accompanied by the flavours of Pickled Mussel and Black Rice Cake. The dish is elevated by a velvety Saffron Emulsion, harmoniously paired with the freshness of Courgette & Shellfish Cappuccino.

Course 5 – Barbacoa de Porc: Fiery and bold, this course brings together the Belly & Cheek of Pork, carefully prepared with the smoky goodness of Sobrassada. A bed of savory White Bean Ragú nestled alongside adds a touch of earthiness, while the vibrant notes of Red Pepper dance on the palate.

Optional Add-on (£9): You have the option to include the Barbecue Prawn with Chorizo & Espelette Pepper. Much to the seafood-lovers delight, however bear in mind, not a single char-grill mark was spotted which made it less exciting than described.

Course 6 – Crema Catalana: Conclude this voyage with a dessert that pays homage to Catalonia’s sweet traditions. Indulge in the velvety smoothness of Burnt Vanilla Creme, accompanied by the luscious sweetness of Poached Prune. A drizzle of golden Honey and a sprinkling of Fennel Seeds add the perfect finishing touches, leaving you with a lingering sense of satisfaction.

To complement your meal, Six by Nico also offers an optional wine pairing for £35. This carefully curated selection of wines will perfectly complement the flavours and enhance the overall dining experience.

FYI, I opted for the vegetarian menu, while my dad had the regular menu as described above (which I got to try for research purposes, of course!). I have to say, I thoroughly enjoyed my variation, and dare I say, some dishes even surpassed their meat-based counterparts!

Priced at £48, the affordability of Six by Nico’s six-course tasting menu is truly remarkable, especially considering the exceptional quality and artistry that goes into each dish. Book your table today and immerse yourself in a world of culinary enchantment. This menu is on for six weeks. Ends 5th November.
