The Skinifiction of SPF: Your All-Year-Round Skincare Staple | My Soho Times

The beauty world has gone through a major glow-up thanks to the magical merging of skincare and other beauty realms. The concept of “skinification” has revolutionised our daily beauty rituals, seamlessly incorporating skincare ingredients into a wide range of products, from makeup to haircare and suncare. This evolution has transformed sunscreens from mere summertime essentials into year-round skincare staples, redefining our approach to personal care. Julia Ferrai shares more.

One of the biggest beauty trends to emerge in recent years has so seamlessly integrated our everyday beauty routine, across all categories from makeup to haircare and suncare, that you may not even have noticed it. The “skinification” of beauty, when ingredients typically found in skincare products are used across other beauty products like shampoo and foundation, has gradually been building up, as brands add skincare active ingredients such as hyaluronic acid or vitamin C to – well everything. We’re increasingly focused on skin health, self-care and wellness, but we’ve moved away from a Korean-inspired 10-step beauty regime in favour of quicker and simpler routines.

366 Days of SPF: Face the Future’s SPF Campaign and the VAT Burn Initiative

Combining this with a rising awareness of the skin health risks associated with sun exposure – not to mention its effect on skin ageing – it’s no wonder that SPF has infiltrated our skincare staples to offer everyday protection without the need to apply yet another product. Sunscreens would typically be associated with summer holidays abroad, translating to a SPF 50 multibuy purchase in Boots to cover the whole family’s needs. But sun protection education has come a long way since. As a result, sunscreens have evolved into products with skincare benefits, coming under the guise of anti-ageing serums or brightening moisturisers and removing the need to apply them as an afterthought. This is a great way to turn suncare into a year-round essential rather than a seasonal add-on.

Biovène Hyaluronic SPF 30 Anti-Aging Face Fluid

This lightweight, non-greasy and fast-absorbing fluid from the Spanish brand Biovène is positioned as a high-protection sunscreen. But with its hydrating hyaluronic acid and niacinamide-infused formula, it can definitely replace your standard moisturiser, with the added benefits of preventing premature signs of ageing caused by prolonged sun exposure.

  • What makes it a sunscreen: SPF 30, UVA and UVB protection, water resistant
  • What makes it an everyday skincare staple: skincare ingredients Hyaluronic Acid, repairing
Niacinamide and antioxidant Green Tea, non-greasy, lightweight

Biovène Hyaluronic SPF 50 Anti-Aging Sun Serum

For higher protection and a lighter texture, go for Biovène’s SPF 50 serum, promising all day protection and the same skincare ingredients as the SPF 30 fluid. The combination of sun protection and hydrating, antioxidant and repairing ingredients makes this product an ideal protection against photo-ageing. My skin felt protected from dryness and dehydration throughout the day, even without the addition of a moisturiser, and makeup stayed in place thanks to the non-greasy finish – as much as you’d expect in cloying weather.

  • What makes it a sunscreen: SPF 30, UVA and UVB protection, water resistant
  • What makes it an everyday skincare staple: skincare ingredients Hyaluronic Acid, repairing Niacinamide and antioxidant Green Tea, non-greasy, lightweight, and can be used under the eye area.
