As Mother’s Day draws upon us (30th March), acclaimed English actor and singer Jules Knight, known for his role as Dr Harry Tressler in the medical drama Holby City and as a founding member of the award-winning vocal group Blake, has released a heartfelt single, dedicated to his late mother. Jules, who has performed for the Royal Family, including the late Queen and counts the Prince and Princess of Wales among his university peers, lost his mother, Jane Kaye, to a rare form of cancer called Sarcoma in July 2023. The new single is a poignant and loving tribute to her memory.

Jules Knight has maintained a successful career as a multi-talented performer across both music and television. With Blake, he has sold over 1 million records worldwide, earning multiple gold discs in the UK and releasing albums in over 15 countries. The group has received two Brit Award nominations, winning once for Best Classical Album of the Year. Since leaving Holby City, Jules has appeared in several television and film productions, including starring opposite Elizabeth Hurley in the hit US TV show “The Royals.”
A Tribute to His Mother
‘To Where You Are’ debuted on March 24, 2025. Jules’ take on the song embodies the essence of their relationship and Jane’s profound impact on his life. Describing her as a “very good person,” he highlighted her kindness, generosity, and dedication to her community through charitable acts. “We miss her every day, but especially on Mother’s Day, and this song is a tribute to her,” he expressed, resonating with many who have experienced loss.
“‘To Where You Are’ is my way of expressing the way I felt about my mum, in the immediate aftermath of her sudden and unexpected death. Both the words and the melody really spoke to me on a profound level, and I felt compelled to quickly find a recording studio and record it. It is a tribute to her really. She was a wonderful person, and a fantastic mother, and this is my way of remembering her,” Jules shared.

Jane’s journey with cancer began in January 2023, when she first reported feeling unwell. Despite repeated visits to her GP and a series of normal blood tests, the family quickly realised that something far more sinister was unfolding. After a series of misdiagnoses, a tumor was eventually discovered, but by then, Jane’s health had rapidly deteriorated. The painful saga that followed was a stark reminder of the challenges faced within healthcare systems, which Jules has candidly criticised, shedding light on the need for better awareness and research for rare cancers like sarcoma.
“When my mum needed the NHS, the system felt completely broken. There were too many errors. There were junior doctors strikes and long waiting lists, and as the months passed by, my mother’s tumour was getting so big it was pressing on her internal organs. She lived in discomfort and pain. We were having to stamp our feet to get an acceptable level of care. The research into these ‘hidden cancers’ is absolutely vital so that they are detected as early as possible – unfortunately, this wasn’t the case for us, and it seemed there was little awareness of this type of cancer.”
The Making of the Music Video
After recording the song, Jules then decided to make a video, recruiting the help of a talented local photographer, Scarlett Warrick, to create something special. The video is filmed in Hastings, where Jules was born and spent a lot of time with his family when he was a boy.
“I was sent away when I was seven years old to be a chorister at Winchester Cathedral, something I know my mum felt a little bit guilty about. But in reality, it’s given me so many amazing career opportunities, and I am very grateful to her for giving me such an incredible start in life. I told her that as she was dying, which I think gave her some comfort.”

Kerry Reeves-Kneip, Sarcoma UK’s Director of Fundraising and Communications, acknowledged the importance of stories like Jane’s, emphasising that they can drive vital conversations around cancer awareness and early detection. “We are deeply saddened about Jules Knight’s loss,” she stated, reiterating the organisation’s commitment to research and support for families facing similar challenges.
Jules Knight’s latest release is a fitting conclusion to both International Women’s Month and Mother’s Day, demonstrating the profound impact one person’s life can have on another. It serves as a call to cherish those we love, honour their memories, and continue advocating for awareness around pressing health issues.
