Spring is finally here, bringing with it the perfect excuse to shake up your beauty routine. Those rich moisturisers, full-coverage foundations, and heavy layers that carried us through winter can start to feel excessive as it gets warmer. This season calls for lighter, breathable bases, and consistent SPF becomes an absolute must. Beauty contributor Grace Alexandra guides us through her essentials for transitioning your skincare and makeup this season.
A lighter approach to base makeup
Winter makeup often leans heavier, and I tend to reach for more full-coverage products than I do in Spring and Summer. As the weather warms, skin usually needs less coverage, so I opt for lighter, breathable options like skin tints or tinted SPFs.
Last year I reviewed a range of skin tints, and three stood out for me: Summer Fridays Skin Tint, Lisa Eldridge Seamless Enhancing Tint and Sculpted By Aimee’s Hydratint. All three have brilliant formulas — lightweight on the skin, yet offering just the right coverage for that ‘your skin but better’ finish.

For days when you want even less on the skin, a tinted SPF like Merit’s The Uniform is a fantastic option. It evens out your skin tone while letting your natural glow shine through, and with SPF50, it’s a fabulous base product, especially during Spring and Summer.
Swap heavy creams for lightweight hydration
Cold weather calls for rich moisturisers, and as someone with dry skin, I use super-hydrating products year-round. But in Spring, I usually switch to gel-based moisturisers, particularly for daytime wear. Gel-cream formulas deliver hydration while absorbing quickly and layering beautifully under SPF and makeup. Beauty Pies’ Triple Hyaluronic Acid Moisturiser is a great example of this texture shift — I’ve been using it since the start of March. It’s lightweight and preps the skin perfectly for makeup.
SPF as a non-negotiable step
SPF should always be the last step in your morning skincare routine; however, Spring is when it becomes completely non-negotiable. Longer days and increased UV exposure make daily protection more important than ever. The key is choosing formulas you actually enjoy wearing.

I tend to reach for lightweight Korean options, such as The Relief Sun: Rice+Probiotics SPF50+ from Beauty of Joseon. It has an almost moisturiser-like texture, feels breathable on the skin, and layers seamlessly under makeup without leaving a cast or heaviness.
A lighter makeup base, a gel moisturiser, and an SPF you genuinely enjoy wearing may seem like small changes, but they make a real difference. Seasonal beauty isn’t about doing more—it’s about giving your skin exactly what it needs. In Spring, that usually means lighter textures, breathable formulas, and skincare that fits effortlessly into your everyday routine.
