Alpha Live: The Best of the West End

After a stop-start few months, My Soho Times is delighted to debut our Arts Report on Soho Radio, airing once a month and presented by Gillian Smith.

Keen to welcome back live performance, we hit the ground running with our very first guest – musical star Ben Forster, winner of ITV’s 2012 Superstar competition.  Ben came into the studio to talk to us about his role as Creative Director for Alpha’s The Best of the West End at the Albert Hall on 21st July.  It’s been a rocky but Covid-secure road and with fingers and everything else crossed Ben, along with a host of talented faces, including hopefully Ruthie Henshall, John Owen-Jones, Mazz Murray, Mica Paris, Layton Williams, Lauren Samuels, Matt Henry MBE, Sophie Evans, Matthew Croke and Kerry Ellis will be taking to the hallowed RAH stage for a celebration of all things musically West End.

This year’s concert will be in aid of Acting for Others, a charity close to Alpha’s heart, particularly following the closure of the West End during the interminable months of Covid-19. They provide financial and emotional support to all theatre workers in times of need through 14 member charities.  A minimum of £5 will be donated from every ticket sold.

Celebrity attendees for this special night include Dame Judi Dench, Beverley Knight and Melanie C.

So if you fancy putting your toe back in the water of live theatrical experience, there is no finer place to start. Tickets still available for the performance on Wednesday –

The Arts Report with My Soho Times on the Radio hosted by Gillian Smith

Gillian is a freelance Producer, Writer and Broadcaster covering all things cultural (and not so cultural) with a particular interest in film, including red carpet events, navigated with a sharp pair of elbows. She has wrangled zombies and klingons at a variety of festivals and comic cons, crawled through abandoned tube stations and even filmed undercover with the police. But that’s another story. There’s always another story so now that we’re up and at it again, time to talk about the town and Soho’s revitalised arts scene.
