In all honesty, I don’t can’t remember the last time I sat through the full length of a murder mystery film. Thankfully an opportunity came along to change that – and Janelle Monáe starring in it may have had something to do with it! Last Friday evening I had the privilege of attending the preview screening of Rhian Johnson’s Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery at the Hamyard Hotel, Soho. The the festive event organised by We Are Parable; an award winning platform providing access to Black Cinema experiences in culturally relevant, memorable and unique ways, in collaboration with The British Blacklist, brought together a diverse audience of black creatives.

The multi-talented American musician, actor, fashion and cultural icon, Janelle Monáe was in London on a promo tour for her new Netflix film Glass Onion. I managed to capture part of the engaging Q&A hosted by Akua Gyamfi, founder of The British Black List. Looking effortlesly chic in a tweed Thom Browne suit, Monáe talks about working with a brilliant cast, becoming friends with Grace Jones, and her dream to ‘write, direct, star in and do the music for a film‘…
