They say time flies when you’re having fun. Well, it’s hard to believe that six weeks (or so) have swiftly passed since my first experience trying the affordable fine-dining six-course tasting menu concept which took me on a trip to Catalonia. I’m back to embark on a new gastronomic adventure at Six by Nico, where their latest Street Food menu pays homage to the vibrant street food scenes found in iconic cities around the world… Buckle up and prepare for some flavour-packed thrills!
My culinary voyage for this menu begins in Canary Wharf. Thanks to the convenient Elizabeth Line, my journey from Soho was swift and direct, arriving at my destination in under 30mins. The Six by Nico Canary Wharf restaurant boasts a larger space compared to its Fitzrovia location, while still maintaining its distinctive interior design, open pass, and, of course, the ever-evolving six-course menu.

The star dish that really blew me away was the first course from Seoul (I went for the veggie menu btw). It was a super fluffy and light Kimchi Steamed Bun with a crispy golden crust and a filling that had hints of ginger and pickled mushroom. It came served in a comforting and tasty broth. It was divine! Also, this time, the add-on lived up to expectations. The Hot & Sour Indonesian King Prawns, which come served whole, were perfectly fried, adding a lovely contrast from crisp exterior to soft and delicate succulent interior.
For my dinner date, this menu was her favourite. I, on the other hand, had already set high expectations after being blown away by my first extraordinary experience with the Catalonia menu. I was hoping to see a more diverse variety of world street food options instead of predominantly Asian flavours. For instance, it would have been exciting to taste their take on Egyptian koshari or a unique twist on Ghanaian kelewele (spicy fried plantain). The menu, in my opinion, felt a little ‘safe’, perhaps because I am well-travelled (I’ll have you know I was a travel journalist before settling for the charms of Soho!), and street food is my absolute favourite category during my journeys.
Overall, it’s difficult to find fault in Six by Nico, whose unique and affordable concept is a blessing for food enthusiasts amidst the current cost of living crisis. This concept allows us foodies to still indulge in a fine dining experience without the exorbitant price tag often associated with it. Here you’ll find each chef has their own station at the pass, effortlessly plating the same dish as if it were second nature to them. The emulsions are impeccably glossy (a trademark of Six by Nico), the foam consistently light and airy, and the creams luxuriously rich and velvety… who knows where our next culinary adventure will lead!
