Depending on your knowledge of the somewhat obscure pedestrian walkway seamlessly linking Dean Street and Wardour Street, you might recall a range of establishments that have occupied number 2 St Anne’s Court in Soho over the decades. One of the notable predecessors was the popular (Vodka) Revolution Bar, which shut its doors more than a decade ago. Following that, the ‘surf & turf’ restaurant Rex & Marino set up shop, offering a unique culinary experience for both pescatarian and carnivours alike. After a long period of closure post-lockdown, Zelman Meats closed down before Block Soho emerged as a new addition to the vibrant area two years ago. However, its presence was short-lived, as was the subsequent venture of Nanny Maroon, which promised Indigenous Jamaican cuisine but closed shortly after its launch event last year.
Despite the venue’s turbulent history, the arrival of Danish Steakhouse, Köd Soho, launched on the 19th of August, signals a promising change. The success of their soft launch period brings hope for stability and success to this space on St Anne’s Court.

Family-run
Köd, which means “meat” in Danish and is pronounced similarly to ‘cool’, brings its unique concept to London as the city’s exclusive Danish steakhouse. Köd Soho is the latest addition following the successful launch of KöD’s first London outpost in the City in March 2023. Driving the brand’s expansion is London-based founding partner Morten P. Ortwed, who, along with five friends, introduced KöD in Denmark in 2014, subsequently expanding into Norway, and eventually overseeing the UK developments and the launch of KöD City in March 2023. Leading the kitchen operations for all UK KöD restaurants is James Durrant, renowned for his prior roles with Gordon Ramsay Holdings and The Stafford Hotel. Morten’s remarkable journey in the hospitality industry began as a waiter, and through seizing the opportunity to franchise a cafe, restaurant, and nightclub with a group of friends in 2009, he went on to establish DiningSix, which now boasts eight successful brands and 22 restaurants across multiple countries. His hands-on approach often sees him at the pass, tending to tables, and serving drinks.
Morten’s wife, Catrine Ortwed, not only plays a key role in the restaurant’s management team but has also been instrumental in the impressive interior design of KöD Soho, contributing to its stellar online reviews praising the restaurant’s ambience.
