Mildreds Reopens: A New Look for Soho’s Iconic Vegan Restaurant | My Soho Times

London’s most iconic vegan restaurant, Mildreds, has reopened after a major renovation. The official reopening took place on Wednesday 16th October, following a special VIP event to welcome the restaurant back to its home in Soho. Located in the ornate Grade II-listed heritage building on Lexington Street, Mildreds now features a stunning new design that offers opulent dining across three floors.

The refurbished space includes an 18-seater private dining area and event space, perfect for festive gatherings. Guests can enjoy the ambiance of individually designed areas, showcasing contrasting colours, an abundance of plants, and an impressive collection of artwork gathered over the last 36 years. The exterior of the building has transformed into a deep blue with vibrant orange window frames, complemented by a neon Mildred signage that invites guests inside.

A Legacy of Plant-Based Culinary

Mildreds CEO, Sam Anstey, expressed pride in re-opening the restaurant, stating, “We’ve been trailblazers of plant-based food for decades, and our home has always been Soho, the heart of London’s most vibrant district.”

First opened in Soho in 1988, Mildreds aimed to provide flavourful vegetarian dishes to a discerning clientele. Over the years, it has established a global reputation as one of the leading trailblazers in vegetarian and vegan cuisine, making it the heart of plant-based food innovation in the UK. The restaurant has welcomed numerous celebrities, including Sir Paul McCartney and Anne Hathaway, further cementing its status as a cultural icon.

Mildreds Beyond Soho

With over 35 years of history, Mildreds has expanded from its Soho roots to multiple locations, including Covent Garden, Camden Town, Kings Cross, Dalston, and Victoria.

Mildreds continues to attract food lovers with its willingness to take risks in the kitchen. Led by Creative Director Sarah Wasserman, the in-house development team focuses on crafting bold and innovative dishes that excite the palate. “Mildred’s food philosophy has always been about showcasing the freshest, most vibrant and flavoursome ingredients available in plant-based cooking.” Wasserman shared.

Autumn Menu

The recently launched autumn menu includes an array of seasonal and adventurous flavours, bringing back beloved dishes such as the popular Mushroom Ale Pot Pie featured on TopJaw, and the Chocolate Ganache. Mildreds’ approach is rooted in the belief that fantastic food and drink should be accessible to everyone, whether they follow a vegan diet or not.
