You may recognise her voice, but do you know the Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter and powerhouse vocalist Kelli-Leigh?
Kelli-Leigh Henry-Davila, who simply goes by Kelli-Leigh, has carved out an impressive career in dance music, earning a Grammy nomination for her contributions to Diplo’s 2023 album and headlining Ibiza Rocks. Her journey in the music industry has shaped her into a formidable talent, overcoming challenges along the way. In this interview, Chanel Smith delves into Kelli-Leigh’s remarkable beginnings in the industry, favourite spots in Soho, and her captivating Christmas hit, “Miracle” which made waves in Eddie Murphy’s film Candy Cane Lane, on Amazon Prime last year.

1. Did You Find the Music Industry, or Did The Industry Find You?
It’s a combination: the music finds you, then you find the music industry. I’ve been passionate about being a singer since I was a kid growing up and being surrounded by such a musical family. It was just in my head, there was nothing else for me. So I did whatever I could to be a singer. I started teaching at BRIT Kids as a singing assistant. Then I found myself doing function bands and all that kind of stuff, trying to take a step up in the industry.
2. Is the Music Industry Becoming More Inclusive?

I have been seeing more female artists and women of colour on lineups. This year I ended up headlining Ibiza Rocks on the same day that Alex Mills was closing Beach and Becky Hill was supporting David Guetta at Ushuaia. And I felt proud because the first time I came to Ibiza, that was not a thing.
The lineups were mainly straight white males, except for MK and Black Coffee. There’s progress worth celebrating! More solo female artists are now releasing records on radio without needing a DJ, something that was nearly unheard of a couple of years ago. There’s still a need for more diversity in major label representation. But radio is doing amazing!
3. What Was The Process Behind Singing “Miracle” For Eddie Murphy’s Christmas Movie, Candy Cane Lane?
For me, Miracle was actually a miracle because I probably had one of my worst years in the music industry at the beginning of last year. I had no investment, no proper management – I was exhausted. And then, as the music industry does and like the universe does, it would present something.
I got this call out of the blue from a manager (who’s not my manager), who messaged me saying they’ve got an Eddie Murphy Christmas movie and need a vocal on it. Do you think you could turn it around within a day? I said yes! This was a Sunday, and I was going on holiday, so if they wanted any extra done there was nothing else I could do.
A week went by, and I did not hear anything, then suddenly I got a call telling me I got the role of singing Miracle. That project reminded me why I love my work, even in the toughest times.

4. Have You Ever Performed in Soho? What Was It Like?
Yes, I’ve performed in Soho multiple times! Venues like 100 Wardour St and the Hippodrome. I’m also always down in Soho for meetings, as so many music companies and radio stations are based there.
One particularly special moment was my first performance back after lockdown at 100 Wardour, and it was such a great night! You could feel how happy people were to be out and listening to live music again.
5. What’s Your Favorite Memory of Soho?
Soho has always been the ultimate night-out destination for me. Whether you start your evening there or end up stumbling in at 2am. It’s the heart of late-night London. One standout memory is my many visits to Balans – an absolute lifesaver! There’s just something about the community spirit of Soho; it’s this vibrant mix of people, energy, and spontaneity that makes it unforgettable.
6. Must-Visit Spot in Soho?

100% Taro on Brewer Street is a must. Hands down one of my all-time favourite restaurants in London. I’ve been going there for years with friends, and family, (or sometimes just me!). Their Chicken Teriyaki Bento Box paired with some hot sake? Perfection. It’s my go-to comfort meal that never disappoints.
