Beat the Heat: Summer Specials at London Grand Coffee, Soho

Are you a caffeine connoisseur confident that you have drunk your fill and drained every last drop from the Soho coffee scene? A bean counter who knows their Liberica from their Arabica? As familiar with affogato as ristretto, by way of a sneaky cortado? This is excellent news as you, of all people, will be delighted to know that tucked away just moments from the elbows-out madness of Regent Street and the chaos of Carnaby, lies London Grand Coffee. Gillian Smith headed over to Warwick Street to discover more from London Grand Coffee

A Calm Oasis in Soho

In a sector not really known for promoting serenity, paradoxically this coffee shop on Warwick Street is an oasis of calm and of course, delicious coffee, a sleeper hit biding its time in one of the quieter corners of Soho.

Soho’s Warwick Street runs parallel to Regent Street and is bookended by Beak Street to the north and the junction of Glasshouse and Brewer Streets to the south, so within remarkably easy reach of all points West End. It boasts a boutique hotel at one end, a couple of pubs at the other and a church (where, totally incidentally, my parents were married!) in the middle. Something for everyone.

A quick chat with manager Tejash Rana reveals that although London Grand Coffee has been open for a while, it’s only now that it’s carving out its own unique identity in what most people will admit is a crowded market.

Unique Offerings to Explore

For LGC every cup has a tale attached and that story will always include a carefully curated selection of premium, single-origin coffee beans sourced from some of the world’s very best coffee-growing regions. The aim is consistently to provide a truly authentic coffee experience.

Supporting emerging markets at the same time as committing to ethical practices and sustainability is also high on London Grand’s agenda. Not only are Colombian, Brazilian and Rwandan coffees available, but plans are also afoot for a range of speciality beans from South India, part of a welcome global trend.

Summer Specials

So what’s available right here, right now? On the summer drinks menu are a range of delights: BS Frappé, a caramel lover’s dream of butterscotch, vanilla, toffee and espresso; the Thandai, an Indian-inspired blend featuring cashews and pistachios, saffron, peppercorn and fennel, finished off with dried rose petals; and don’t miss the heavenly Affogato, a delightful combination of rich vanilla ice cream topped with a shot of hot, freshly brewed espress. What a treat anytime of day!

And if you feel like further stepping out of your comfort zone, how about a liquid mushroom superblend shot? These anti-inflammatory mixes reputedly sharpen the wits, calm the nerves and regulate sleep patterns, and are becoming increasingly popular.

Of course, you aren’t confined to coffee – there are chai, matcha and turmeric lattes and a variety of teas, smoothies, kambutchas and hot chocolate.

For chowing down London Grand offers pastries (any coffee + pastry for £6.49 before 12pm), cakes, sandwiches and snacks. More are planned, so watch this space. Future possibilities include an alcohol licence for those long summer evenings, should you need a refreshing espresso martini after a day’s work/shopping.

Are you a resident or worker in Soho and the West End? Great news! London Grand Coffee offers locals a 10% discount with the code ‘SOHOTIMES‘.
Enjoy your wonderful coffee moments!

It’s heartening to see that despite the bewildering choice of caffeine outlets available in the vicinity, this coffee shop already has a loyal customer base – local business workers, some students and passers-by are drawn to the clean white lines of the décor and the warm welcome. Downstairs is an additional seating section that customers are welcome to use for meetings, remote work and informal chats.

So next time you’re in the neighbourhood, drop by London Grand Coffee and let Tejash and the busy bean LGC team steer you towards the ultimate in caffeinated bliss. You have nothing to lose but your lethargy!
