Healthy hair starts at the root. Fact. While skincare has dominated the spotlight, there is another area receiving increased attention: scalp care. Our beauty writer, Grace Alexandra, shares four tried-and-tested products helping to support a healthy scalp and healthier-looking hair.
For the past decade, skincare has dominated the beauty conversation. From active ingredients to multi-step routines, the focus has been on improving the skin on our faces. But skin doesn’t stop at the hairline.
We’ve noticed a shift within the beauty industry in recent years, with more brands focusing on scalp care and recognising the scalp as an extension of skincare rather than an afterthought in haircare. With growing aspirations for healthy hair and long-term hair growth, scalp care is becoming a key focus for many brands.
Here are our tried-and-tested favourite scalp care products:
1. Aveda Scalp Solutions

While the entire Aveda Scalp Solutions range is brilliant, the product I consistently return to is the Scalp Solutions Exfoliating Scalp Treatment. It’s become a permanent fixture in my routine.
Applied before shampooing, it acts as a reset for the scalp, helping to lift build-up, excess oil and residue before you even begin washing your hair. Pre-wash treatments and scalp exfoliation are becoming a more widely recognised step in haircare rather than an occasional add-on.
When paired with a scalp brush, this treatment enhances both product distribution and gentle exfoliation, resulting in a healthier scalp and healthier-looking hair.
Tip: A hairdresser once recommended applying this exfoliating treatment to dry hair before using a scalp brush. Rinse thoroughly and then continue with your usual shampoo and conditioner routine.
2. Hello Klean Scalp Soaks

At the cre of Hello Klean’s ethos is protection from hard water, shielding both skin and hair from the overlooked effects of hard water. As part of their expanding hair care range, the brand has recently launched two targeted Scalp Soaks: one formulated to combat flaking, and the other designed to address hair thinning concerns.
Designed to be used post-wash on towel-dried hair, the Scalp Serums feel very lightweight, the consistency is fast-absorbing, allowing the formula to sink into the scalp without residue or heaviness. Adding this step into your routine helps remove hard water build-up, supporting a clearer scalp and healthier looking hair over time.
3. Kerastase Nutri-Supplement Serum

Kerastase Nutritive Range is another staple in my hair care routine. My childhood hairdresser recommended it to my mum, and ever since we have both loved it. A stand out for scalp care is their Kerastase Nutri-Supplement Serum. This can be used post-wash directly to the scalp to nourish and soothe it but I prefer applying this in the evening before bed to work overnight. I find this helps to hydrate the scalp and just like the new Hello Klean scalp serums, this one is also non-greasy.
4. Charles Worthington Scalp Restore

Another new launch is Charles Worthington Scalp Restore Clarifying range; consisting of a scalp scrub, shampoo and conditioner. It positions itself as gentle and suitable for sensitive scalps and I can confirm it is both-I have sensitive skin (face and scalp) and I’ve been trialling this range over the last few weeks, it leaves my scalp feeling refreshed and not at all irritated.
What’s clear across these launches is that scalp care is no longer niche. From targeted treatments to full scalp-centred routines, this isn’t just a trend. Ultimately, healthy, luxurious hair starts at the root.
