Last Minute Father’s Day Ideas in London: Restaurants, Culture and Experiences I’d Actually Recommend | My Soho Times

A few years ago, I started inviting my dad along to restaurant reviews, launches and events. What began as a practical solution (nobody likes dining alone) quickly became one of the best decisions I’ve ever made.

Since then, we’ve eaten our way across London, discovered hidden gems, explored exhibitions and built a growing list of father-daughter dates that have completely transformed our relationship.

Some of my favourite memories with my dad have come from simply spending quality time together. Whether that’s lunch in Soho, an afternoon wandering around an exhibition, or stopping for gelato after a haircut, it’s often the simplest moments that end up meaning the most.

If you’re still looking for inspiration for Father’s Day this Sunday 21 June, here are a few restaurants, cultural experiences and days out I’d genuinely recommend.

For the Dad Who Loves Discovering Restaurants

Platapian

One of Soho’s most exciting recent openings, Platapian has brought a fresh Thai flavours to Greek Street.

Named after a traditional Thai palm-leaf handicraft that symbolises prosperity and good fortune, the restaurant specialises in authentic Thai comfort food designed for sharing. Expect bold flavours, generous portions and dishes that feel rooted in home cooking rather than watered-down versions created for Western tastes.

If your dad enjoys discovering cultural restaurants with a strong sense of identity, Platapian is well worth booking.

Address: 15 Greek Street, London W1D 4DP

Busaba Soho

Speaking of Thai cuisine, the Wardour Street institution, Busaba, remains one of Soho’s most popular spots for a casual meal.

The communal tables, energetic atmosphere and menu of Thai favourites make it an easy crowd-pleaser. Sometimes Father’s Day doesn’t need to be complicated — good food and good conversation are more than enough.

Address: 106–110 Wardour Street, London W1F 0TR

Six by Nico

For dads who enjoy a little theatre with their food, Six by Nico is always a talking point.

The concept revolves around an ever-changing six-course tasting menu, with a new theme unveiled every few weeks. It offers the feel of fine dining without the eye-watering price tag often associated with tasting menus in central London.

If you’re looking to make Father’s Day feel like an occasion, this is a strong contender.

Address: 41 Charlotte Street, London W1T 1RR

For the Dad Who Appreciates a Classic

Refuel at The Soho Hotel

If you’re looking for something a little more special, Refuel at The Soho Hotel is offering a dedicated Father’s Day menu.

The three-course menu includes dishes such as steak tartare, Portland crab lasagne, roast sirloin of beef and salmon Wellington, followed by desserts including tarte Tatin and roasted peach with apricot sorbet.

Guests can also round off the afternoon with a screening of Power Ballad in the hotel’s private screening room.

The Savoy Grill

Elevate your dad’s Father’s Day with a visit to The Savoy Grill, an iconic London restaurant located within The Savoy Hotel on the Strand.

Known for its historic Art Deco interiors and long-standing reputation, it has hosted numerous notable figures over the years, including Winston Churchill, whose portrait is displayed in the dining room. The menu focuses on classic British and French cuisine, with a strong emphasis on traditional grill dishes and timeless brasserie-style cooking, making it one of London’s most established dining rooms.

Restaurant director Thierry Tomasin is known for his warm, attentive presence and deep knowledge of the restaurant’s history.

The Mayfair Chippy

The Mayfair Chippy has become something of a modern London classic.

Known for its award-winning fish and chips, oysters and seafood dishes, it strikes the balance between traditional and elevated. It’s the sort of restaurant that appeals to multiple generations, which is perhaps why it remains such a popular choice.

For the Dad Who Plays It Cool

Wacky Barbers

Father’s Day doesn’t always have to revolve around food. Sometimes a fresh haircut and a confidence boost can go a long way.

I took my dad to Wacky Barbers for a trim and beard shape-up ahead of a busy month of events. Located on St Anne’s Court between Wardour and Dean Street, this quirky independent barbershop has built a loyal following thanks to its friendly team, uber-relaxed atmosphere and ability to make anyone sitting in the chair look instantly cooler.

If your dad has been talking about getting a haircut for weeks but hasn’t quite got around to it, this is your sign to book it in and make a day of it in Soho.

Address: 9–12 St Anne’s Court, Soho, London W1F 0BB

Snowflake Gelato

After my dad’s haircut, we headed to Snowflake to try the brand’s new Snow Peach gelato on a stick — part of their “Snow Collection”.

It’s a peach-shaped gelato stick made with soft peach gelato, coated in a white chocolate shell infused with peach, designed to look and taste like the fruit itself. It’s handheld, nostalgic and very Soho in the sense that it turns a simple ice cream stop into something slightly more theatrical.

Address: 102 Wardour Street, Soho, London W1F 0TP

NQ64 Soho

If your relationship with your dad is built on a healthy dose of competition, NQ64 offers a Father’s Day alternative to the traditional lunch reservation.

The neon-lit arcade bar is packed with retro gaming favourites, from racing simulators and fighting games to old-school arcade classics.

Whether you’re settling decades-old family rivalries or introducing your dad to games you grew up with, it’s guaranteed to create a few memorable moments.

The Music Is Black: A British Story at V&A East

If your dad is passionate about music, make time for The Music Is Black: A British Story (April 18 2026 – January 3 2027) at V&A East.

This immersive exhibition explores more than a century of Black music-making in Britain and celebrates the artists, communities and cultural movements that have shaped British music.

Visiting felt particularly meaningful given my dad’s background in music journalism, writing for titles including DJ Magazine, Touch, Hip Hop Connection and Billboard.

Venue: V&A East, Stratford

The Little Baobab

One of my favourite recent father-daughter dates took us across the river to The Little Baobab in Southwark.

The restaurant specialises in Senegalese cuisine and serves vibrant dishes packed with flavour and colour. From the warm welcome to the beautifully presented food, the entire experience feels like discovering a hidden gem.

Address: 66–68 Great Suffolk Street, London SE1 0BL
