As winter approaches (often very suddenly as we have seen in London & the rest of the U.K in recent weeks!), we often notice a change in our skin’s needs. The cold weather can leave our skin feeling dry, tight, and in need of extra care. Not only that, but the need to turn on the heating in our homes and cars can further contribute to irritated and dry skin.
My skin is dry all year, but I particularly notice it needs extra TLC in Winter. Over the last couple of months, I’ve had to adjust my skincare routine significantly to better accommodate these seasonal shifts. So I thought I’d share the changes I have made, as well as my current favourite ultra-nourishing products designed to combat the effects of the colder months… These recommended products also make great beauty gifts too for your loved ones – or a treat for yourself!

1. Switching to a richer moisturiser
When the temperatures suddenly dropped recently, I noticed my skin became very dry, to the point that it was actually flaking under my makeup. Since then, I’ve been using Dr. Jart Ceramidin™ Skin Barrier Moisturising Cream (RRP £38.00) morning and night for the past three weeks, and I believe it is the main factor in restoring my very dry, irritated skin. It appears tinted at first glance but blends in easily. It feels light on the skin yet really hydrating and I am amazed by the change in my skin since I added this into my routines.
Some other super thick nourishing moisturisers that I adore and reach for in winter are Paula’s Choice Barrier Repair Advanced Moisturiser (RRP £39.00), and The Inkey List Bio-Active Ceramide Moisturiser (RRP £19.00)

2. Incorporate hydrating serums
Hyaluronic acid is a step I never skip in my morning skincare routine. It provides intense hydration, holding up to 1000 times its weight in water! It also contributes to plumpness which is the ultimate skin goal for retaining youthfulness. I use The Inkey List Hyaluronic Acid Serum (RRP £9.00) every morning and the Hada Labo Tokyo Anti Ageing Super Hydrator (RRP £18.99) at night. These are both fabulous serums that hydrate dry skin, don’t feel sticky and sit nicely under makeup.

3. Adjust to gentle, nourishing cleansers
Incorporating a cleansing balm is not only great for the skin, but with ‘party season’ in full swing, it is a brilliant way to ensure every bit of makeup is removed. I am a huge fan of the Elemis Pro-Collagen Cleansing Balm (RRP £29.00). It is very gentle and smells like you’re at the spa, making it a sensorial calming step to my evening routine. Another cleanser I have been loving lately is the Dr. Sam’s Flawless Cleanser (RRP £19.00). I think this is particularly good as in winter, our skin may feel more sensitive and irritated. Dr.Sam’s Flawless Cleanser is very gentle and non-stripping, leaving the skin feeling comfortable.

4. Add an eye cream into your routine
The colder weather can leave the delicate skin around the eyes irritated and stripped of moisture. Using an eye cream morning and night can help to provide extra nourishment.
Truthfully, I have only recently made an effort to incorporate an eye cream into my daily routine. Trinny London’s Take Back Time (RRP £65.00) is a really gorgeous and hydrating eye cream. It promises to deliver 24-hour hydration!

5. Lastly, never forget SPF
It is important to wear SPF every day – even in the snow! Just because you can’t feel the sun, doesn’t mean it is not damaging to your skin. Two that I love are the Torriden Dive In Watery Moisture SPF 50+ (RRP £22.00), and La Roche Posay Anthelios UVMUNE 400 50+ (RRP £20.00).
Both of these provide high protection at SPF factor of 50+, blend effortlessly into the skin and sit very well under makeup.
Adapting my skincare routine for the winter has made a noticeable difference. By focusing on hydration, protection, and gentle exfoliation, I’ve managed to keep my skin feeling healthy and radiant despite the colder weather. I hope sharing my experience helps you find your perfect winter skincare routine.
