“Choose a career you love and you’ll never work a day in your life…”
Well, whoever gave that advice forgot the small print – you’ll work double as hard!

Had I have known the vast challenges I’d be facing navigating a print magazine in the abyss of a pandemic, I would have spared myself the stress – fact. That said, this experience has essentially cemented what’s at the core of My Soho Times – community. And it’s my community which has been my biggest strength, alongside family and friends.
We Are 1 Year This Winter!
And so it’s with a joyful heart and immense gratitude that I present the Winter issue of My Soho Times… with Gok Wan as our cover star! What a way to celebrate our 1 year anniversary as a print magazine!
I got to meet the multi-award-winning TV presenter, stylist, designer, author and DJ over a Zoom date (“Kai, do you know what just happened? We went from our first Tinder date to our fifth!“ – Gok Wan revealed within the first 7 mins of what could have been a formal interview!)
Read about how Gok got through lockdown, companionship, his love of calling Soho home, and opening up his kitchen for Instagram’s biggest house party – Isolation Nation.

Soho is open / Support Local series
We introduce the ‘Soho Is Open‘ series of interviews, taking you behind the scenes of local small and independent businesses to meet the owners. In this issue we meet Christine Yau of Yming – Soho’s oldest Chinese restaurant (of 35 year), Tony Phillips aka Tony the Soho Tailor and his 50 year service as a tailor in Soho, and we take your into Borovick Fabrics – Soho’s oldest fabric shop to meet the store’s current owner Simon Lipman. Photography by Ari Gurdon Lindey.
Soho is Open series started as a blog post I wrote to share a list of the businesses open during lockdown 1.0. It then went on to becoming a weekly segment on The Soho Hour with Clare Lynch on Soho Radio, and has now found a steady home in our print. Any community funds we receive will ensure we’re able to continue sharing the stories of small and local businesses as a permanent feature in My Soho Times.
