Frankie Field gets a moment with Proud Cabaret All Stars sensation Helen Lederer…
Helen, congratulations on joining Cabaret All Stars! Tell us how has your first show been?
Well, its been a baptism of fire! I’m just getting used to it all, but I’m embracing it!
I suppose this is different from what you usually do, what things have you had to get used to?
What I found interesting to get used to is people drinking, and eating. The crowd can do everything in there, except maybe fornicate!
What has been your favourite part of the experience so far?
Friends! I’ve been excited to meet new people. It is lovely when you take away a friend from a new experience and build up a world of these friends you meet. I love the opportunity to connect, whether it is the stage hand or the mime artist.
What can the audience expect to see?
People come down from a piece of fabric, there are burlesque performers, the audience are great and lots of different things are going on. It’s so stimulating!
People have come to see the amazing talent of the performers…plus me! I’m doing a bit of stand up, and there’s a poem and they even let me sing!
What are you looking forward to?
I am looking forward to getting out there, and stepping out of my comfort zone.
Do you have anything special to wear for the occasion?
I had a costume made for the performances, a lovely coat and clunky boots with little sequins. Usually, I’m in espadrilles but it isn’t really the weather for those.
What is your guilty pleasure?
It varies, but usually it is things that go in my mouth!
Some people have house porn and I went through a phase where I would look at taps and tiles. Right now, it is Green and Blacks chocolate, the hazelnut one. Not dark, why would you do that to yourself?! I’m probably averaging 2 or 3 a week but I get a great hit from it that I just love.
What is your favourite place in Soho and the West End?
I love Soho, it is the familiarity that I like so much.
When you come down at the beginning of Dean Street and there are the restaurants with tables outside (during Soho Al Fresco). I love Groucho and the French House. It’s nice to see things coming back.
