#RepresentationMatters: YourWestminster magazine interviews My Soho Times Founder, Kai Lutterodt for their Autumn Cover Feature!

Can you imagine my surprise when I received an email from the City of Westminster creative department requesting an interview with me?

Why me? I thought, riddled with a good dose of imposer syndrome.

The initial interview request email arrived back in the summer when, well, I was at a low point. Faced with the decision to not print a Summer edition of My Soho Times due to lack of print funds, I didn’t feel I had much to say about running a Soho-centric lifestyle publication which couldn’t even meet its advertising budget that season. So I put off responding – and almost didn’t!

Thankfully, taking timeout has a way of offering a new lease of life – a fresh perspective, which is exactly what happened at the bringing of Autumn and what I’ve dubbed ‘back on a roll‘ in my editor’s note. I responded to the email just in the nick of time to be interviewed for the Autumn edition of YourWestminster, which due to the passing of the late Queen Elizabeth II, was postponed slightly… and here it is, out now!

Distributed to 200K+ City of Westminster Council residents, and services across the borough such as libraries and gyms.

Connecting to the community and promoting representation are two of the drivers that keep Soho resident, Kai Lutterodt buzzing and have earned her a reputation as a champion of the West End.

In this issue I touch on being ‘delightfully dyslexic‘ (yet courageously creative, if I say so myself) – a phrase coined by Pip Jamieson, founder of the Dots, my passion for showcasing my community, and why it’s important for me as a young black female creative to carve a space for myself instead of waiting for the opportunity to be handed to me… let’s just say I could be waiting a long time otherwise!

There’s more I could have touched on around mental health which, as this article begins, is something I’m learning to navigate and I hope to be in a secure position to talk more about it without feeling stigmatised.

My thanks goes out to the City of Westminster for recognising my efforts, my small yet mighty team and contributors, the Soho community, and all the businesses with a target West End audience who’ve ever said ‘yes’ when ‘no’ is a set default.
